. ABOUT US .
The New Milford Community Shelter (a homeless shelter) provides a safe and warm seasonal space for unhoused guests to spend the night using facilities from participating churches. It operates only during the winter months, normally late November through March.
The shelter is operated strictly by unpaid volunteers and has been in existence since 2001 (excluding an interruption during the Covid pandemic). Since its inception, the shelter has been funded entirely from private donations (no financial support from town, state nor federal government). The shelter is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.
The shelter rotates its location monthly between churches on the New Milford Green who allow us to use their facilities: St. Francis Xavier Schoolhouse, St. Johnâs Episcopal Church, and the First Congregational Church. Guests âcamp outâ in the respective hall.
